Noaa Cook Inlet Belugas Are Endangered
Cook Inlet Beluga whales have been listed as endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Friday. Newer studies also show that the low number was cut in half by 1998. L list is intended to protect the Cook Inlet single species from extinction. Scientists have estimated that as many of May 1300 were alive at the end of 1980, but the population fell to around 653 by 1994. The whales were listed as Depleted in 2000 under the protection of marine mammals Law.
